Pot luck! From chili to saucy shrimp, blog is stirring interest
It's hard to believe that it's been six months since we launched the Stirring the Pot recipe-exchange blog on knoxnews.com. With the help of readers and chefs who have willingly shared their recipes, we've answered more than 45 requests. There are plenty we haven't been able to answer, including recipes for sanchos like those served at Los Charros Mexican Restaurant (it operated on Forest Avenue in the late 1970s), S&S Cafeteria's jalapeno corn bread, Smoky Mountain Market's hot dog chili, and Greek salad dressing served at Pizza Palace. If you have a recipe to share, or want to make a request, visit the site at http://blogs.knoxnews.com/ knx/constantine/. Here's a sampling of our latest finds: * Beverly requested the red and white bean chicken chili recipe from Puleo's Grille.

The school was getting nervous when the bait was moving aggressively, but they would pounce on it if we moved it slowly. Fortunately, within minutes, we were able to get a fish in the boat that weighed about 6.75 pounds, helping take a ton of pressure off us. The next cast produced a 4-pounder. Nice. Two fish in the well. Not winning fish but things were going our way. Fifteen minutes later, John stuck a 6.25-pound redfish and we were flying high. Then we worked the Intracoastal a few more hours, but had nothing to upgrade our catch. Our weight was enough for second place. You try to be happy about it, but we had winning on our minds. Congratulations to Friday and Latham for a job well done: They earned the win. All of the teams in the finals were capable of catching that winning bag of fish, but Mike and Danny capitalized on their opportunities.
Book Sheds New Light on Baboon Social Scene
He wrote it on August 16, 1838, almost two years after returning from his voyage on the Beagle and 21 years before the publication of The Origin of Species. It was a time of vigorous intellectual activity, when Darwin read voraciously on many subjects, both within and beyond the sciences, and met and talked with many different people, from family friends to prominent literary and political figures. Despite this active intellectual life, however, it seems unlikely that he or anyone else had ever combined the words "baboon" and "metaphysics" in the same sentence. What was Darwin thinking? Mind and behavior in Darwin's time The Cambridge English Dictionary defines metaphysics as "the part of philosophy that is about understanding existence and knowledge." Writing in the Westminster Review in 1840, John Stuart Mill offered a summary of views on the origin of knowledge that were being discussed by Darwin and his contemporaries.
Bills in Olympia tied to menu labeling
A state Senate committee is scheduled to hear a trio of bills Thursday that could impact the number of Washington restaurants required to share nutrition information with customers, or delay the program's Aug. 1 start date. Last summer, King County's health board voted to require all chain eateries with 10 or more outlets nationwide to specify the amount of calories, carbohydrates, fats and sodium within each item that stays on the menu for 60 days. By Aug. 1, affected restaurants must list the information in menus or on the menu board. Many restaurants object to the requirement, calling it cumbersome and expensive. Health groups, including the American Heart Association, support it as a means of battling the obesity epidemic, since folks eat out more frequently.
